Frederick K. Ness, MD
Dr. Ness began his family medicine practice in Pipestone in May 2018. He earned his Medical Doctor degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1985. He then completed his residency at the University of North Dakota Family Practice Center - also in Grand Forks. Dr. Ness has a particular interest in diabetes care and weight loss management.
With over 30 years of experience in health care, you can count on Dr. Ness for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of acute and chronic health conditions and injuries. He also offers preventive services and screenings for people of all ages, such as:
- Annual Physicals
- Medicare wellness visits
In addition to family medicine, Dr. Ness has a particular interest in caring for patients with diabetes. His passion for diabetes care grew from years of working with native populations – both in Ecuador, South America and throughout the Upper Midwest. “I chose family medicine with a focus on diabetes because that’s the care that those populations needed most,” he says. “It’s also a good model of preventive medicine for all people because nutrition and exercise are the fundamentals.” He speaks fluent Spanish, passable Portuguese and has basic conversation skills in the Lakota and Ojibwe languages.
In his free time, Dr. Ness enjoys playing the drums, guitar, and singing – on his own and in several bands. He also likes to garden and exercise, especially running, lifting weights, and punching a bag.
